The hottest intersection in pizza
A delayed but triumphant opening for Mama's Too in the West Village
Stand on the northeast corner of Christopher Street and Bleecker Street, and you’ll see people—not unlike you, dear reader—who love pizza. Starting on Bleecker and snaking its way towards the subway stop is the line to Mama’s Too. Take a look down Christopher towards the river, and you’ll see pizza fanatics queueing for L’Industrie Pizzeria’s burrata slices.
Both these outposts are their second locations, Mama’s Too migrating down the 123 line, and L’Industrie traversing the East River from its original spot in Williamsburg.
L’Industrie’s second location opened in the fall of 2023, and Frankie Tuttolomondo’s Mama’s Too #2 opened its doors just last Saturday. Before opening, you could catch Frankie joking with Nick and Massimo at L’Industrie between checking in on his shop’s progress.
There is a lot to say about these two shops, along with the other excellent pizzerias—Village Square, Daddies, John’s, Joe’s—dotting the neighborhood, but for simplicity’s sake we’ll focus on Mama’s Too today.
Nearly three times larger than the original Upper West Side location, Mama’s Too on Bleecker offers a lovely and spacious bathroom, gourmet slices, gelato, and seating for more than twenty people.
We ordered the menu, and it did not disappoint. Particular highlights included the cacio e pepe, the vodka slice, although there were zero duds. Rich, creamy sauces held up on the light, crunchy, and airy bread. Save room for the gelato, the perfect sweet to wash it all down.
Congrats Frank and the whole Mama’s Too team from us at Bob’s Pizza Tour! Keep crushing it.
Catch y’all next time, and tell ‘em Bob sent ya!
delectable, delicious, outrageous
The poached pear was also a highlight!
